    Lincoln Day 2019

    Abraham Lincoln

"As a young man, Lincoln worried that the 'field of glory' had been harvested by the founding fathers, that nothing had been left for his generation but modest ambitions. In the 1850s, however, the wheel of history turned. The rise of the slavery issue and the threatening dissolution of the nation itself provided Lincoln and his colleagues with an opportunity to save and improve the democracy established by Washington, Jefferson, and Adams, creating what Lincoln later called 'a new birth of freedom.' Without the march of events that led to the Civil War, Lincoln still would have been a good man, but most likely would never have been publicly recognized as a great man. It was history that gave him the opportunity to manifest his greatness, providing the stage that allowed him to shape and transform our national life."

    Doris Kearns

The Summit County Republican party is proud to host a breakfast celebration in honor of Abraham Lincoln.

We are pleased to have special guest speaker Tim Price, an Army veteran. He served in both Desert Shield and Desert Storm, where he acquired PTSD. His therapist in New Orleans suggested that he come to Summit County for the programs offered by the National Ability Center. Tim came through a program in Summit County and 26 days later decided to move here permanently. He then volunteered for a year at the NAC and became a Recreational Therapy program instructor working to help other veterans recover.

Summit County GOP Helps Small Businesses

Last year the Utah State Legislature passed HB 442, the new alcohol law, that is having a significant impact on bar and restaurant owners, in Summit County, and around the state.  You have probably seen signs in restaurants and bars stating that the establishment is licensed as a restaurant, not a bar, or is licensed as a bar and not a restaurant.  This is but one provision of HB 442 that, in part, requires owners of these establishments to declare by May of 2018 what their license type will be (restaurant or bar).

How Can You Help the Republican Party?

We are all busy with our families, work, hobbies and life in general.  Many of us get a lot of satisfaction volunteering and helping causes that are important to us.  Maybe politics isn’t your “thing” but there are few things that you can do that will affect so many aspects of your quality of life.  Politics, and the process of enacting and abolishing laws, can affect our health, finances, land, families and our beautiful state.  There are small things you can do to help your party and its leaders.  Please consider helping us or, at the very least, educate yourself on the issues and vote in every election.
